Black Napkins in Toronto Dec 2010 during soundcheck .... Dweezil and the band were playing Black Napkins, nailing it. There was electricity in the room, a presence. The hair on the back of my neck was at attention. After the song DZ looked at me and said “did you feel that! “ I replied to DZ “OH YEAH” .... there were ghosts in the room that day! I think BN could be added to the “permanent playlist” and no one would be upset!
Frank taped BN with the Mike Douglas Orchestra on a Monday afternoon. He played the SG through a Pignose while the orchestra sight read the music. That night at the Spectrum I heard BN for the first time ever. Zoot Allures had only released a week or so earlier. That Friday the Mike Douglas taping aired in Philadelphia on KYW TV. The next day I bought Zoot Allures and a Pignose. Still have both.
I remember the first time I played Zoot Allures and was so thrilled to hear this. And it is no surprise Mr. D has preserved and actualized the power this song has. Did you know that when it was released it was considered to be so powerful that it was censored in Canada! (white sticker on the vinyl, on Torture too)....... trust me, it's true, FZ told me in 1977! Enjoy this dat and stay safe, Co

That's a great story! Of course, my dad's SG had a preamp in it that allowed him to get way more distortion and sustain from that little pignose.
Wow did I just think that was just THE coolest recollection! I laughed from my heart in understanding how that hit you! SOOOO Fun and so cool man!
Black Napkins was the closing song played at the first Zappa show I saw in Sept 77. Made me a fan for life.
